Day Treatment

Day Treatment Services - working beyond our walls

supportive classrooms • directed learning • positive goals

Some students just need a little extra help and the right learning environment. Kennedy House operates a co-ed day treatment classroom – ideal for those who do not need residential placement, but who are having significant difficulties in a traditional school setting.

Students with a history of refusing to attend school, limited social skills, behavioural problems, or academic underachievement are candidates for our Day Treatment classroom. They benefit from:

  • small class sizes
  • individualized academic and life skills programming
  • a safe environment in which to learn
  • counseling
  • incentive programs
  • continuity of care, with oversight of implementation & delivery provided by a Kennedy House Social Worker, and
  • care and treatment support by a Kennedy House Child and Youth Worker
  • facilitation and academic delivery by an Ontario Ministry of Education, Board certified teacher
  • Ontario Ministry of Education approved curriculum

Day Treatment addresses the academic, social and life skills needs of students 13-16, but at the same time takes an integrated approach to supporting the treatment plan for each student. Our goal is to re-integrate students into the regular school system.

Kennedy House treatment classrooms – located in community based schools – were intended to provide service to the youth who reside in one of our Group Homes. However, from time to time, we are able to offer “reverse integration” – allowing students from the home-school to attend our program for part of the day. In turn, our own residents can also be partially integrated into the home-school to enhance their learning and social development.
